About

Middle Way Cinema is a platform founded by Shen Xin, dedicated to the dance of the relative and the ultimate through moving images. It presents curated programs that engage with dependent origination, accompanied by writings that support viewers’ awareness. Through collaboration with artists and communities, it seeks to align creative practice with ways of living, while exploring forms of uncontrived togetherness. Previously known as An Deò, Middle Way Cinema is looking forward to introducing new approaches in 2026.

Shen Xin works with moving image, sound, text, painting, performance, and installation. Their practice is grounded in recognising the fundamental social responsibilities inherent in interconnectedness, cultivating a direct relationship with what emerges within shared ecosystems. They were born in Chengdu, Sichuan, and find home in Northern An t-eilean Sgitheanach (Isle of Skye).

Alt text is available for all images, and audio descriptions are available where necessary. With each event, access information will be published in advance.

Middle Way Cinema is a modest initiative currently run by one person. If you feel inspired to support this work, your contribution will be used facilitating screenings, paying artists fees for presenting their films, providing hospitality, and necessary maintenance including this site. This site collects the following data as a user profile: name (optional), email address, membership status, email open rate, country signed up from, date account is created. If you are a paid-member, your information is stored according to Stripe's privacy policy. Your data will not be shared or sold to any third party. If you leave a comment your name will be visible, and any media you upload will retain its own data as a photo for example. Embedded content such as other websites you visit via this site might collect your data. The data collected via this site will be deleted when you stop being a registered user. You can always request a copy of your data or request for it to be erased.
